Now, first and foremost, a career in psychology is not for everyone. With making any decision on a set major it takes a lot of thought and you must research every aspect of the field of study and ask yourself if it is a career that is right for you. In deciding a major, I researched a lot of possible careers that I found of interest. Like many young adults today, I was lost in all the majors i had the opportunity to choose from and I did not know myself well enough to be completely sure I made the right decision. It was not until I attended my first psychology college course that I knew not only what I wanted to study but also I gained more insight to the kind of person I am. I love to help people in their lives and advise them well and majoring in psychology was the first milestone. The rest became much clearer to me.
A career in psychology can be very rewarding, fun, and challenging and it gives you many chances to better the lives of others. But it is a field of study that you must find intriguing.
So if you:
- Love to help people in any aspect of their lives
- Have an act for solving practical and/or theoretical problems
- Enjoy the research process of data analysis
- Find yourself observing the behaviors of others and trying to understand why people do what they do
- And simple just get excited learning more about the many topics in psychology
Then, a career in psychology may be right for you, but first major in it!
