Majoring in Psychology

Psychology is one of the most popular majors for undergraduates today. With a broad spectrum of different, relevant careers, there is so much to choose from in this study. Pursuing a career in psychology offers up an opportunity for personal growth; helping you understand not only yourself but also others around you; teaching how to gather, analyze, and interpret data, which is an essential skill that can be applied in a number of different careers. A psychology degree can to a variety of things like: serve as a background for further study, impress potential employers, and if there is a certain area of psychology you would like to dive deeper into, it can provide a career path that reflects your own passions and interests whether they be seemingly far apart. With the growing rate of psychological services in a wide range of settings the outlook on jobs is good. The demand for trained professionals is greatly expected.

Now, first and foremost, a career in psychology is not for everyone. With making any decision on a set major it takes a lot of thought and you must research every aspect of the field of study and ask yourself if it is a career that is right for you. In deciding a major, I researched a lot of possible careers that I found of interest. Like many young adults today, I was lost in all the majors i had the opportunity to choose from and I did not know myself well enough to be completely sure I made the right decision. It was not until I attended my first psychology college course that I knew not only what I wanted to study but also I gained more insight to the kind of person I am. I love to help people in their lives and advise them well and majoring in psychology was the first milestone. The rest became much clearer to me.

A career in psychology can be very rewarding, fun, and challenging and it gives you many chances to better the lives of others. But it is a field of study that you must find intriguing.
So if you:
  1. Love to help people in any aspect of their lives
  2. Have an act for solving practical and/or theoretical problems
  3. Enjoy the research process of data analysis
  4. Find yourself observing the behaviors of others and trying to understand why people do what they do
  5. And simple just get excited learning more about the many topics in psychology
Then, a career in psychology may be right for you, but first major in it!
